You are invited to an open discussion on the opportunities for the Massachusetts and New England economy and the engineering challenges for offshore aquaculture and fisheries.
The development of new technologies and materials, sensors, communication equipment, and autonomous vehicles offers a unique opportunity to take advantage of the enormous exclusive economic zone (EEZ) offshore the United States, to provide nutrition, biofuels, and many other products. Consistent with its mission, the MIT Sea Grant Program is exploring ways to further the economic development of Massachusetts and New England through the development of ocean related advanced technology that can be transferred to industry.
The discussion will be led by a panel of experts, followed by an open discussion to:
- Assess the potential that offshore aquaculture and fisheries has for Massachusetts and the New England area in general, with focus on open sea farms;
- Identify potential critical areas of research in engineering systems for offshore farming, also including autonomous sensing and inspection, and real-time automated operation.
Please RSVP by Wednesday 11/29 to email@example.com.
